We were so disappointed with all the other American "Black Forest Hams" we tried after returning home from an extended trip to Germany.

It's supposed to be salty, with an intense fir/juniper smokiness that is nothing like any other smoked meat I've ever tasted and this product tastes *exactly* right.

Just read the ingredients of other US brands and you can tell they paid no attention to the traditional recipe (which you would be required to follow if you were to try labeling it as Black Forest Ham in Germany).

High sugar content? Maple or Hickory smoked? Lots of chemicals? Sorry, if that's what's on the label, then it's not going to taste anything like the real thing and they are only using the name for marketing purposes, with no regard for taste.

There is no reason to try any other Black Forest Ham in the US, this is as good as it gets if you want authentic flavor!

I ordered some of this when the imported ham I used to get became unavailable. It's got the same flavor but is considerably saltier than what I used to get. I probably won't buy it again.

Truly amazing taste! This was bringing back a lot of memories of my time in Bavaria!
